This curated study sequence includes courses examining the life, teachings, character, and attributes of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Based on a number of classic sources, these four courses will provide ways to better know our Prophet ﷺ so that we may become better followers. Through examining his life and words, we can extract lessons and themes from the Prophetic mission that are relevant for our lives, days and time.
THE LIFE OF THE BEST OF CREATION: THE DISCERNING EYE’S DELIGHT - SHAYKH HAMZA YUSUF
This course, taught in the Illuminated city of Madinah by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, introduces his English translation of a celebrated poem on the blessed life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Written over 400 years ago by the noble and erudite scholar, Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Lamti, “The Discerning Eye’s Delight (Qurrat al-Absar)” eloquently honors the life, qualities, and countless virtues of the Messenger of God (God's peace and blessings be upon him). Shaykh Hamza Yusuf's moving commentary of this didactic gem will surely engender a greater love for the Beloved ﷺ.
WORDS OF THE MESSENGER: A COMMENTARY ON SAHIH BUKHARI - SHAYKH WALEAD MOSAAD
The ummah has accepted the hadith collection of Imam al-Bukhari as the most authoritative collection of the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Throughout Islamic history, it has been read and studied as a source of guidance, inspiration, as well as intercession in times of strife and tribulation. The abridgment by the Andalusian scholar of the seventh century, Abdullah ibn Abi Jamra consists of 300 or so selections from what are regarded as the quintessential traditions of al-Bukhari's collection.
Character of the Prophet ﷺ- Imam Zaid Shakir
This class will examine aspects of the character, mercy, morals and worship of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, based on the inspiring book of Shaykh Abdullah Sirajuddin, may Allah have mercy on him. In addition to examining these aspects of the Prophet’s mission, message and being, we will extract lessons that are relevant for our lives, days and time.
PORTRAYAL OF THE PROPHET - SHAYKH MUHAMMAD NINOWY
The Shamā’il of Imam al-Tirmidhī is a treasured collection of almost four hundred hadiths detailing the various characteristics of the blessed Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The chapters include details on the Prophet’s physical appearance, his clothing, his manners of daily living including his blessed speech, and much more ﷺ. This course will provide an abridgment of the hadiths found in this timeless classic.
